When is the Reach Out and Read Wisconsin Fifth Annual Meeting?

Friday October 28, 2016. Registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon and the meeting will conclude at 3:30 p.m.

Where is the Reach Out and Read Fifth Annual Meeting going to be held?

This year’s meeting will be on the UW – Madison campus at the Pyle Center located at 702 Langdon Street Madison, WI 53706.

Where is the nearest parking to the Pyle Center?

Because of the downtown Madison location there are many options available for parking. Please use this map for reference:

Are hotel rooms available?

Reach Out and Read Wisconsin has a room block at the Crowne Plaza Madison hotel, located at 4402 East Washington Avenue. The hotel is located conveniently near I-90 and is 6.7 miles, (approx. 20 minute drive) from the Pyle Center. Rooms are available for a rate of $109 + tax. What is the cost to attend?

The cost is $35 per attendee. If you would like to receive CME credit the cost is $70. Reach Out and Read Wisconsin staff will email your CME certificate to you after the meeting. The cost can be paid via credit card on our EventBrite page or by check made payable to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Checks can be mailed to Alexandria Rogers at 1716 Fordem Avenue Madison, WI 53704 or can be brought to the event. Please click here to register. No on-site registration will be available.

What is included in the cost?

Breakfast, lunch, and literacy promotion materials are included in the $35 fee. If you choose to receive CME credit, breakfast lunch and literacy promotion materials are all included along with the CME credits and certificate of completion for $70.

Who is this year’s keynote presenter?

Alan Mendelsohn, MD of New York University is this year’s keynote speaker. Dr. Mendelsohn is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Population Health at the New York University School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital Center.

Dr. Mendelsohn has done extensive research on poverty-related disparities in child development and will be discussing his most recent research, the “Video Interaction Project” (VIP). Families are videotaped reading with their child and then the tapes are reviewed with the families as a means to support them in strengthening their scaffolding and positive interactions with their children. Dr. Mendelsohn will share his expertise in analyzing parental behavior and provide tips for increasing the clinical support of parents during the well-child visit.

Are there breakout sessions included in the agenda this year?

The following three breakout sessions will run concurrently for one hour during the afternoon:

  • Clinicians Circle led by Dr. Dipesh Navsaria will entail remaking the well-child visit
  • Management Meetup led by Karin Mahony, project manager of Reach Out and Read Wisconsin will be discussing fundraising opportunities for clinics
  • Training for non-clinicians led by Susan Golz, Lead Nurse Practitioner of UW Health Northeast Family Medical Center

  • Advocacy update
  • It’s just Plain reading, a cultural review of Amish and other plain peoples in Wisconsin and the books they like to read
  • Reach Out and Read research project updates from UW School of Medicine and Public Health graduate students
  • A workshop on how to choose high quality books
  • Book drawing
  • Clinic awards

Will handouts be available at the meeting and before/after?

Any presenter handout sheets will be provided in print version at the meeting. To save on printing, we do not print copies of PowerPoint presentations; but will post materials on our website after the meeting at https://www.chawisconsin.org/ror/

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. Eventbrite will automatically generate a ticket once a registration is paid. However, we will be checking in attendees on-site and while the fee needs to be paid, a physical ticket does not need to be presented.

Can I register on-site?

We ask you to register in advance. Food counts and attendance numbers are due to the venue a week prior to the event.
